Accounting Operations Team Lead

Multiple Locations, US

Employment Type: Permanent Position Function: Accounting / Finance Job Number: 16792929

Job Description

About Our Client

Our client is a global powerhouse in the legal services industry, consistently ranked among the top firms in the United States and the United Kingdom. With a presence in over 40 countries and annual revenues exceeding $3.5 billion, the firm is defined by a culture of high standards, collaboration, and a bold approach to legal excellence. They view their people as the "backbone, heart, and soul" of the organization, offering a supportive environment where professionals can engage in truly meaningful work.

The Opportunity

This is a newly created "Player-Coach" role within the Accounting Service Desk, established to provide essential day-to-day leadership as the team expands. Reporting directly to the Accounting Operations Support Manager, the Team Lead serves as a critical support layer, acting as the first point of escalation for complex accounting and billing inquiries. This position offers a unique chance to step into leadership, providing mentorship and operational oversight without the burden of full people management.

The Location

While this role is labeled as hybrid and can sit in various office locations (including Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, San Diego, or Seattle), the team is currently fully remote. The firm is open to candidates across the U.S.; however, you must be strictly committed to working 9:00 AM 5:30 PM Pacific Time to ensure coverage for the West Coast needs.

What You Will Do

  • Team Support: Provide guidance and training to a team of 7 10 Specialists, assisting with onboarding and identifying knowledge gaps.
  • Workflow Coordination: Manage and prioritize ticket queues in ServiceNow, ensuring high productivity and timely support for attorneys and clients.
  • Escalation Management: Resolve advanced or sensitive billing and accounting inquiries that require a higher level of expertise.
  • Process Improvement: Document instructions for the internal knowledge base and identify opportunities to streamline service delivery.
  • Hands-on Contribution: Maintain active involvement in daily operations, balancing supervisory duties with core accounting tasks.

90-Day Success Roadmap

  • First 30 Days: Master the firm s accounting software (Aderant, ChromeRiver, Kofax) and ServiceNow ticketing workflows while building relationships with the Specialist team.
  • First 60 Days: Transition into the primary escalation point for the Service Desk; begin identifying and documenting process gaps in the knowledge base.
  • First 90 Days: Effectively manage team productivity and ticket prioritization, serving as a reliable partner to the Manager in elevating overall team performance.

Who You Are

The Ideal Candidate is a legal accounting professional who is ready for a lateral leadership move into a premier global firm.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of accounting or billing experience, specifically within a law firm environment.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency in Aderant is effectively required, alongside strong Excel skills (pivots and filters).
  • Leadership: Prior experience as a Team Lead or in a formal mentorship/supervisory capacity (minimum 6 months to 1 year).
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive financial information with discretion.

Flexibility & Work-Life Integration

This role offers the stability of a major international firm with the flexibility of a primarily remote work environment. While the Pacific Time hours are a firm requirement to support the business, the role is designed for those who value a collaborative, service-oriented culture that invests in professional development and core competencies.

Why Join the Team?

Professional Growth: Access to a comprehensive talent management strategy that seeks to develop core competencies in leadership and professional excellence.
Impact: Play a foundational role in a newly created position where your process improvements directly affect global operations.
Prestige: Join one of the largest and most respected law firms in the world, working with some of the most talented professionals in the legal industry.
